FWMS / FIREWALL MANAGEMENT

pfSense central management, built for MSPs.

Bring multiple customer firewalls into one workspace. FWMS gives engineers a central place to configure pfSense CE appliances, review security activity, and keep customers informed.

What does central pfSense management bring together?

A growing firewall fleet creates more than a configuration problem. Engineers also need to know which appliances are reachable, whether logs are arriving, what software versions are running, and which customer is affected. A central management portal connects that operational context to the device itself.

FWMS brings device inventory, management controls, encrypted log collection, investigations, and reporting into one self-hosted workspace. Staff can move from the fleet overview to a selected appliance without rebuilding their customer context each time.

Manage rules, NAT, VPN, and supported packages

Open a firewall workspace to work with firewall rules, NAT, aliases, interfaces, routing, VPN, services, diagnostics, and supported installed-package settings. Defined aliases can inform configuration choices, helping engineers work with the names already used on the appliance.

Connections use SSH and the firewall API. Available controls depend on the installed API, pfSense release, and package capabilities. Plan management reachability and device credentials before enrollment; review the changes appropriate to each customer network.

Centralized logs and traffic investigations

Configuration is only part of managing multiple pfSense firewalls. FWMS can configure enrolled devices to send logs over encrypted connections and make those events accessible through its integrated ELK stack. Engineers can investigate a selected time range, source IP, destination IP, and the security classifications available in the collected data.

Security dashboards can highlight blocked websites, source countries, Snort findings, and malware events where the corresponding packages and logging are enabled. A missing sensor or event source cannot produce evidence; the dashboard reflects what the appliance actually reports.

Standardize deployments and follow up on outages

Capture an enrolled device's configuration as a template, name it for the intended deployment, and translate interface assignments when preparing another appliance. This helps account for hardware differences such as igc, ixl, and vmx interfaces.

Connectivity and log-flow monitoring help identify appliances that need attention. Offline and return-to-service notifications provide the outage context, while stopped-log alerts help engineers notice a firewall that is reachable but no longer contributing visibility.

Give customers the right access and reporting

Provision customer users for specific appliances while retaining a broader staff workspace. Schedule executive summaries for a customer's device and deliver them to the intended recipients. Branded reports can bring blocked activity and available security metrics into a format that supports customer conversations.

FWMS is installed on your own Ubuntu infrastructure with a device-based subscription allowance. Size server and log storage resources for the fleet you plan to operate, then review the monthly device pricing.

Questions about managing multiple pfSense firewalls

Can I manage several customers from one pfSense management portal?

Yes. FWMS associates appliances with customer details and supports provisioned access to selected firewalls. Administrators control which devices customer users can access.

Is FWMS installed on each firewall?

The management portal and log platform run on your own server. Enrolled firewalls are contacted through SSH and the supported API; the management workflow may install the API package where required.

Does this include Netgate appliances?

FWMS targets compatible Netgate appliances running pfSense CE. Confirm the appliance release, API availability, and required package capabilities before deployment. This is not a blanket compatibility claim for every Netgate product or software edition.

Does FWMS support OPNsense central management?

OPNsense management has not been validated or released in FWMS. The current implementation targets pfSense CE. See the pfSense and OPNsense management guide for the compatibility questions to assess.
